Platinum Group Metals Corporation donates Php 10.1 million to Hayanggabon Elementary School for new classrooms and an atrium

Platinum Group Metals Corporation (PGMC), one of the country’s leading mining companies, recently turned over a classroom building and an atrium with a total project cost of PhP2.6M to Hayanggabon Elementary School located at Barangay Hayanggabon, Claver, Surigao del Norte. During the same occasion, PGMC also led a groundbreaking ceremony for the 5-room, 2-storey building expansion project amounting to PhP7.5M to further upgrade the school’s facilities.

“We would like to thank the residents of Barangay Hayanggabon for their continued support and cooperation to realize the vision of the company to help its host communities. Rest assured that PGMC will ceaselessly involve itself in uplifting your living condition through various projects including basic education facilities,” said Joseph C. Sy, President and CEO of PGMC, as he addressed the guests during the ceremony.

The donation is part of PGMC’s Social Development Management Program (SDMP).  Apart from livelihood, health and infrastructure programs, education is a vital part of PGMC’s SDMP. Through various education-related initiatives, PGMC has made learning opportunities for residents of nearby communities meaningful and sustainable.

According to Mrs. Beda Murcia, Head Teacher of Hayanggabon Elementary School, “We are very thankful and honored to be recipients of the project. We are gratified to know that PGMC is not just cultivating mines but nurturing minds as well.” Mayor Eddie Gokiangkee was also present to extend the appreciation of the local government to PGMC for its steady and reliable partnership.

PGMC has been experiencing tremendous growth year-on-year since it started operating in 2009 at Brgy. Cagdianao, Claver, Surigao del Norte.  But their aim is not just to make a profit but to build a balanced and strong partnership with various stakeholders for the benefit of the nearby communities and the country as a whole.
