Employees Welfare and Their Occupational Health and Safety
Ensuring a safe and healthy workplace is central to our operations and corporate responsibility. At both PGMC and Ipilan, safety is achieved through a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management System aligned with international standards, including ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety, ISO Quality Management, and Environmental Management certifications, as well as national legal requirements such as Republic Act 11058 and DENR Administrative Order No. 2000-98.
Our facilities are equipped with dedicated medical buildings, advanced healthcare equipment, and on-site medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and first responders, to provide immediate care. Safety initiatives extend beyond employees to encompass contractors and surrounding communities through proactive risk assessments, emergency preparedness, and community protection measures. Operations are continuously monitored through daily and monthly inspections, area monitoring, toolbox meetings, and mandatory PPE usage, while new hires and personnel participate in orientation and continuous training to recognize and mitigate hazards.
An Emergency Response Team is trained in fire suppression, flood rescue, technical extraction, and medical emergencies, supported by simulations, disaster protocols, and early warning systems. A transparent incident reporting system encourages open communication and accountability, ensuring hazards are reported without fear and lessons are applied to prevent recurrence. Safety governance includes the Central Safety and Health Committee, which incorporates employee representation to advocate for worker welfare, identify risks, and make health and safety decisions. Work-related incidents are promptly investigated to identify root causes and implement preventive measures, with results informing continuous improvement through updated protocols, targeted training, and feedback loops.
Ultimately, prevention, preparedness, and shared responsibility form the foundation of a safe, healthy, and secure working environment for all personnel and stakeholders.
